Introduction
After several years of hosting wakeboard influenced freeride events in Hood River that attracted more and more top international kiteboarders, the Slider Project decided to start an annual competition. One that would allow riders to showcase their talents at the ever evolving Hood River Kite Park and expose this progressive "park" style of riding to the rest of the kite world.
In 2010, the first Ro Sham Throwdown was well received by competitors, sponsors, and spectators alike. The invite list was made up of riders who had been riding boots, hitting rails, and performing kite low, powered tricks for a number of years, while the rest of the kiteboarding world was wearing foot straps, and performing "board off" and "danglepass" tricks. These riders were invited out of respect for not following the crowd and helping to push kiteboarding in a direction that we thought to be progressive and stylish. The event also allowed lesser known riders to come and show their skills off to the judges in an effort to qualify for the semi finals and ride against some of the best park style kiteboarders in the world.
For 2011, the Ro Sham is shaping up to be the fastest growing kiteboarding competition on the planet! We have new features in the park as well as the addition of a wakeskate competition, the first of it's kind in the kiteboarding world. Riders from all over the globe will be gathering in Hood River, OR, July 13th-17th 2011, to compete in this 2nd annual invitational. Be sure to get your travel plans together in order to be here. You won't want to miss a minute of the action, the parties, or the chance to meet and hang with some of your favorite kiteboarding professionals.
Event Location
The event this year will take place at the Port Marina Park which is on East Port Marina Drive.
